Tunable DWDM SFP+ Transceivers

Optical transceivers play a major role in handling  storage, data, voice and video traffic whether linking rack to rack, bottom to top of rack, data center to data center or enterprise networks to network. This trend is set to continue at an upraising  rate as mobile networks move to 5G and the DAA approach in cable networks leads to the mass rollout of Remote PHY devices (RPD). The tunable DWDM SFP+ module can also be called tunable SFP+ transceiver, because it’s only available in DWDM form for its narrower grid than CWDM’s. The Tunable DWDM transceiver is a unique product which enables you to set the channel or “color” that the laser emits. This type of transceiver has been around for a number of years but it was not until 2008 that the first tuneable optics were available in the pluggable XFP form factor.

The tunable laser technology is firstly introduced by Oclaro, As speed and performance needs increase optical transceivers have become an integral part of overall system design. However, optical transceiver design margins and parameters vary widely, and can be the difference between an optimized, highly reliable fabric and incompatibility issues that drive up support costs. Although now the market share for DWDM tunable SFP+ transceiver is not big enough, the huge potential will be demonstrated in the near future. The tunable DWDM SFP+ module is a unique device which enables you to set the channel or “color” the laser emits. DWDM tunable SFP+ is different from fixed wavelengths modules because it applies tunable laser, which can operate at any channel wavelength, means that only one kind of transceiver is needed.


According to the network demand, you can adjust your transmission wavelength unlimitedly within the C-band DWDM ITU Grid. 10G DWDM tunable SFP+ transceiver is compliant to SFP+ MSA. This flexible transceiver can be tuned to any one of C-band channels with 50GHz spacing, supporting data rate of 10 Gbit/s-11.3 Gbit/s. DWDM tunable SFP+ transceiver operates over LC singlemode fiber for a max linking length of 80km. With the innovative new chip design and the use of next generation materials, the new module is fully compliant to the SFP MSA form factor and can operate at 1.5W at 70 degrees C with excellent OSNR tolerance. With the breakthrough of technology, the 10G tunable SFP+ transceivers become an important component for next generation data center, metro and regional optical network equipment. They meet the world’s growing bandwidth demands while reducing the size and power consumption for 10G connections.

TARLUZ tunable SFP+ transceiver is fully compliant to SFP+ MSA. It supports 50GHz DWDM 10Gb/s SONET/SDH, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel applications over fiber without dispersion compensation. Digital diagnostics functions are available via a 2-wire serial interface, as specified in the SFP+ MSA and SFF 8472 MSA.
