Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP)
The Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) is described as a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver also used for data communications applications. It is used to connect switches, network, computers and servers. QSFP transceivers can also be used to support Ethernet, InfiniBand and SONET/SDH standards with different data rate options.
However, using fibre channel connections transmits data communications up to 100Gbps.These hot-pluggable demonstrate the same dimensions as an XFP. To accommodate an ever increasing demand QSFP transceivers are designed to support Serial and Flexibility of media. Interface choice supported by many network component vendors on a port-by-port basis, therefore allowing other communications standards.
Furthermore, The small size and increased port frequency allows QSFP transceivers to be much more cost effective for networks, The QSFP transceivers support the network link over single mode or multimode fiber patch cable . These form specified meets the needs of diverse data-rate and reach requirements with a variety of pluggable transceivers. These products can also be operated on multiple electrical interface specified by a multi-source agreement (MSA) under the auspices of the SFF Committee. QSFP+ evolved as the standard to support 10Gb/s data rates per SFF-8436. Compared with QSFP+, QSFP products support Quarter Small Form-factor Pluggable with the different data rate so that there is no change in the product solution. Nowadays, QFSP interface deployment flexibility is able to support 4 independent channels that can individually transmit at up to 1.25 Gbp/s per channel for an aggregate combined speed of 4.3Gbp/s.The design offering a broad range of connectivity options specification, QSFP transceiver has 38 pins with 4 high-speed TX pairs (CML-I) and 4 high-speed RX pairs (CML-O)and supported for each link to provide the required optical reach over many network component vendors. Moreover QSFP form factor supporting 4×28 Gbit (also known as QSFP28).
The QSFP transceiver technique comes as an SR for short distance multi-mode up to 300 meters and LR for ten kilometers single mode. The SR version has an MPO connector which uses 4 four lanes for data traffic. The operating wavelength is around 850nm. The LR version uses standard LC connectors and operates around 1310nm. (1270-1330). In order to support the daily demand of customers QSFP uses 4x1G lanes which is important in networks.
